Jerusalem and Tel Aviv both have negative migration

6,000 more people moved away from Jerusalem than moved to the city in 2017, the Central Bureau of Statistics reports.

17,000 Jerusalem residents left the city in 2017, compared with 11,000 who came to live there, according to figures for local authorities published today by the Central Bureau of Statistics. 1,622 of the people who left Jerusalem moved to Tel Aviv. 686 people moved from Bnei Brak to Jerusalem, more than from any other place.

Figures were published for 255 local authorities in Israel: 77 cities, 124 local councils, and 54 regional councils. The figures cover demography, health, education, welfare, transportation, crime, and law. Data were also published about the financial state of the local authorities.

Israel's population numbered 8.8 million at the end of 2017, 74.8% of whom lived in cities. Tel Aviv also had negative migration in 2017, albeit to a smaller extent than Jerusalem: 23,047 left Tel Aviv in 2017, 2,593 of whom moved to Ramat Gan, while 21,533 moved to Tel Aviv, including 1,632 from Ramat Gan.

The lowest mortality rate in Israel in 2013-2017 was in Modi'in-Maccabim-Reut and Shoham - 3.16 deaths per 1,000 residents. The highest was in Jisr az-Zarqa - 9.27 per 1,000 residents.

The nation-wide fertility rate in 2017 was 3.11. The lowest was in Kiryat Tivon and Isfiya - 1.78, while the highest was in Modi'in Illit - 7.67.

The lowest proportion of diabetes was in Binyamina-Givat Ada - 37.41 cases per 1,000 residents, while that highest was in Jisr az-Zarqa - 138.12 per 1,000 residents.

The lowest rate of center of all types among men was in Beitar Illit - 187.99 cases per 100,000 residents, while the highest was in Nazareth Illit - 427.54 per 100,000 residents. Among women, the lowest rate of cancer of all types was in Rahat - 142.99 cases per 100,000 residents, while the highest was in Ramat Hasharon - 386.71 per 100,000 residents.

The lowest proportions of obesity among 1st grade and seventh grade students were in Modi'in Illit (8.5% among first graders and 17.4% seventh graders), while the highest proportions were in Jisr az-Zarqa (44.6% among first graders and 59.3% among seventh graders.

Collection of municipal property taxes by the local authorities improved slightly. The collection rate rose from 73.4% in 2016 to 74.9% in 2017. Revenue from non-residential municipal property taxes accounted for 55.6% of all municipal property taxes in 2017, down from 56.4% in 2016.

83 of the 255 local authorities had a deficit in their ordinary budget in 2017, compared with 69 in 2016 and 86 in 2015. The local authorities' revenue rose by 7.5% in 2017, while their spending increased by 7.7%. The local authorities' revenue from the central government increased by 10.7%, while their independent revenue was up 5.8%. 52 local authorities suffered a decrease in independent revenue in 2017, compared with 53 local authorities in 2016.
