The Ministry of Communications has asked Rami Levy Communications for clarifications about the plan and fears it could harm competition.

Rami Levy Chain Stores Hashikma Marketing 2006 Ltd. (TASE:RMLI) is offering an unprecedented mobile phone bargain. The company's loyalty club members are being offered mobile phone packages for NIS 1 a month for a year. The complete package includes mobile phone calls and eight gigabytes of data per month.

The Ministry of Communications has asked Rami Levy Communications for clarifications about the plan and fears it could harm competition.

The last time a mobile phone package was offered for NIS 1 was in bargains by Golan Telecom, which sold a second subscription for a month, but as far as is known, there has never before been a bargain like this in the mobile phone market. A senior source at Rami Levy Communications confirmed the details. The bargain is valid until October 16.

In recent months, Rami Levy has begun focusing on mobile phone packages for the haredi (ultra-Orthodox) community, where it is a known and liked marketing concern. It usually sells mobile phone packages without Internet because Haredim want a kosher phone, so it sells packages with no Internet. Rami Levy uses the Pelephone Communications Ltd. network; market sources say that it pays on the basis of surfing, and the subscribers to whom it sells packages for a few shekels are therefore profitable for the company.

Rami Levy recruited 2,190 customers from competing companies in August, plus adding more customers who did not previously have mobile phone subscriptions.
